Default A Solid Foundation

A Solid Foundation

Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24

One Saturday afternoon, my real estate agent and I were out house hunting. We came to what looked like a very nice brick house—from the outside. But when we were in the basement, we saw a huge crack in the foundation that was causing the walls to pull apart. My agent wisely counseled, “I see daylight. Let’s get out of here.”

Like my real estate agent, God steers us clear of unstable foundations. God directs us away from building our lives on frail, temporary supports, such as money and possessions. He cautions us against building on the precarious structure of personal success or fame, which can crumble in an instant.

Instead, God leads us to the sure and solid foundation of His Word. When the troubles of life beat against us, the Word of God will support us with the consolation of God’s love. When our sins assail us, the Word of God will keep us grounded in the Good News of forgiveness through Jesus Christ. When we are weak, worried, and full of doubt, the Word of God will hold us up. With God’s Word as our foundation, our lives are secure, for the Word of Christ will never fall apart.

Thank You, O Lord, for building us up on the eternal foundation of Your Word. Amen.

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
