Default What We Treasure

WHAT WE TREASURE

We all have something we treasure more than anything else. It could be a person. It could be something in our home. It could be a feeling we have when we do certain things. Whatever we treasure we have to be careful that we don’t get obsessed with it and put it before God. The things and people of the world will not last. They will disappoint. They will fade away. But God will be forever.

1 John 2:17 “And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know this world is fading away. We know this world will soon end in destruction. And we know, from Your word and Your promise, that You live forever. And we have the promise from You to live forever if we choose to do what pleases You rather than what pleases others or the world. Help us to treasure Your word more than we treasure the things of the world and remember You in all we do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Let’s be sure our focus today is on God and not the things of the world.

When we remember God’s promises to us for eternal life, we will want to live for Him.

Focusing on God will help us not to worry about pleasing man or getting so absorbed in the things of the world.

When we take the focus off the world and put it on God, the things of the earth will grow strangely dim.

The things of the world will soon fade away. So what is the big deal about getting so involved in them.

1 Corinthians 7:31 “Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.” (NLT)

Focus: What we truly treasure should not be people or things. It should be sharing God’s word with others and living for Him.
