Default The Truest Friend

God's Word For Today

The Truest Friend

Read Proverbs 17:1 through 20:30

The number of friends people have seems to shrink as they grow older. In childhood, people think everyone is their friend. Parents have to teach their children not to trust strangers. In the teenage years these numbers start to level off, especially in junior high and high school. There young people learn that some “friends” aren’t friends at all. That’s usually when people settle into having a small group of close friends. With the coming of college and adulthood, these groups often disperse and friends lose touch with each other and new groups form.

Sometimes running with the “wrong crowd” of friends can get us in to big trouble. Ultimately, we learn that most people will let us down—but not all.

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).

Through all stages of life, Jesus is there as a constant friend. He will walk with us through the valleys of sadness and the mountaintops of joy. He will never leave us or forsake us.

Challenge for Today: Stick as close to Jesus as He does to you.

Quicklook: Proverbs 18:19–24
