Default Understanding The Elderly

UNDERSTANDING THE ELDERLY

How many times do we look at older people and feel sorry for them because of their health deteriorating? How many times do we avoid them or ignore them? How many times do we just tolerate or scoff at them? We need to remember there is knowledge, wisdom and understanding in those who have lived for a long time. They have a greater understanding of this world and of life. Let’s be sure to acknowledge the power of the aged and seek their wisdom so we can learn from them rather than ignore them.

Job 12:12 “Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to spend time with those who have lived a long time on this earth. Help us to seek out what they know and understand. Help us to listen and learn from them so we can hear their stories and what they have experienced from life. Help us to remember we shouldn’t ignore them but we should spend time with them, care for them and help them. Show us how to today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we spend time with those who are older by caring for them and listening to them, we will receive a blessing from God.

The elderly may seem to have wrinkled skin, aching bones and a tired body but most of the time their minds are alert and they have stories to tell.

When we miss an opportunity to listen and learn from those who are older than us, we are going to just have to learn things the hard way.

Older people have so many things to teach us. Let’s spend time with them today.

We shouldn’t just walk away and ignore the elderly. They need someone in their lives who cares just as much as anyone else.

We are to show respect for the elderly and treat them as God has called us to treat them.

Leviticus 19:32 “Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the Lord.” (NLT)

Focus: Seek out someone you know who is older and wiser and get to know them better.
