Many people say, "Get over it" because they don't realize that we have a disease and only a spiritual solution will allow us to get over what ever defects and beliefs from the past. We can make new tapes and learn to play them, instead of those old mixed messages that kept us sick and insecure.

When we come into recovery, we are given the tools to deal with the old baggage from our past, leave it there, and live in today. So many things in today are rooted in the past and I found that I needed to look at the whole picture and not just put on a band aid to make it all better. That is why we have Steps 4-9.

Letting go isn't about saying go away, it is about surrendering to our God and the program, and living this new way of live with a new way of thinking. It doesn't limit anyone, it is our thinking that can give us a narrow outlook and a closed mind.

I can be guilty of dumping. I have this issue, I don't want to hang onto it. I started at the back of my phone book one afternoon and called everyone, and I got to the Rs before I found someone home. It was a guy, who facilitated a Friday meeting. I said, "I hope you have time, I need to talk, and since you answered the phone, you are it." Using is not an option. Holding onto things is not a good thing, we are only as sick as our secrets. It isn't just person to person, it is meditation, working with my angel cards, writing things out and always looking at my part in things, it is not about the other person. Recovery starts with me.
