Pushing The Reset Button
Relapsing back to where any of us may have once been is not at all that unusual after coming into recovery. Sometimes this will happen right away other times it can take awhile before it does, regardless of when this happens we all need to know that it doesn't have to happen, and it won't as long as we're doing what recovery teaches us how to do so we will stay adhered to the principles that are part of recovery that we always need to be practicing all the time then this doesn't happen to any of us, and when we won't do this it's most likely that it will happen. There is no exception to this for any of us and many of us have had to learn this the hard way. From now on our life for all of us is one of us all being willing to stay active in our recovery or we could end up losing both. That's just how it goes for all of us going forward and as dismal as this may sound at the beginning of our recovery it's really not as bad as we all would all like to make it out to be when we all first heard this. All the things that recovery requires we all do aren't really all that impossible to do, as some of us would like to think that they are, and in time we all will realize just how real easy these things are to do, and the principles that we're asked to try to live by if you were to ask anyone else who is outside of recovery what they think of these they will always tell you that it's good live by these same principles if you want to be happy, useful and whole. Relapse has never been a requirement for being in recovery and as long as we're doing what we all need to be doing all the time so we all are in recovery it will never have to be in our life either.
