Daily Motivator - February
The way it is Let this day be the way it is. Let your life, your challenges, your hopes, dreams and frustrations be the way they are. Let everything that is, be just the way it is. Then let yourself discover the good things you can do with it all. You cannot successfully deny reality. What you can do, though, is acknowledge and greatly improve upon it. Wishing for things to be different than they are is an empty wish. Working to make things the best they can be is a much more beneficial use of your time and energy. Avoid wasting even a few moments of your life on anger, blame, or regret. Rise to a higher level, acknowledge the truth of what is, and make good come from it. Let go of your need to control what is beyond you and embrace your power to control what is within you. Let life be just as it is, and let yourself do great things with it all. — Ralph Marston

Value of the struggle Being handed an advantage is not an advantage, not in the long run. Rather than making you strong and innovative, it can make you dependent. Struggling through a difficult situation, relying on your own wits and efforts, may not be much fun when it is happening. Yet it leaves you smarter, more effective, more confident and adaptable. Be careful what you wish for yourself, and what you offer to others. Often the most helpful thing is not to bypass the struggle, but to work through it. Just because someone starts at a disadvantage does not mean that person finishes last. Over time, the experience of dealing with challenge is highly empowering. Respect yourself enough to seek out meaningful struggles. Respect others enough that you don’t unduly intervene in their own empowering struggles. Life is filled with struggles, and it is precisely in dealing with those struggles that life is made rich. Seek assistance and give assistance, but not so much that the value of the struggle slips away. — Ralph Marston

Glimmers of goodness If you resent other people for not being perfect you’ll spend all your time mired in that resentment. If you blame other people for all your problems you’ll leave yourself no agency to resolve those problems. If you completely disengage from anyone who disagrees with you, you’ll end up in a vast and lonely landscape of paranoia and fear. If you react to every slight with shock and outrage you’ll imprison yourself in a dark and bitter realm. Step back and remind yourself that life is not perfect yet it can be very good. Neither you nor any other person is perfect, not by a long shot, yet there is much good to be found in just about everyone. Summon the strength and sobriety to forgive others for their lapses, and yourself as well. Notice the glimmers of goodness and direct your focus towards those. There is progress you can make, there are joys you can share, even among those who don’t always agree with you. Indeed, your own ideas grow stronger and more useful each time you interact with differing ideas. Whenever life moves forward, it is when forgiveness outweighs vengeance, when trust is more prevalent than suspicion. It is when people like you have the courage to turn glimmers of goodness into cascades of value, fulfillment, and joy. — Ralph Marston

Being your best Where is your awareness pointed today? Is that where you want it to be? What are your expectations for this moment? Could you improve on those expectations, or add to them? Your focus is where you decide to aim it, and your expectations are what you choose for them to be. Make the choice to make these things work in a beneficial way. Yes, that is easier said than done. And yes, you can do it anyway, as difficult as it may be. After all, this is your unique and irreplaceable life experience. It is worth, you are worth, every amount of intention and discipline you can give. So choose to see the best, to expect the best, and to put your energy and effort into being your best. Certainly you deserve that from yourself, and for yourself. — Ralph Marston

Do even better If you’re satisfied with what you were able to accomplish yesterday, you can do even better today. If you’re disappointed in life up to this point, you can do better now. No matter what has happened before, no matter who gets credit or who is to blame, you can do better. And today, in this situation, is your opportunity to do so. Stop beating yourself up, stop patting yourself on the back. Get to work doing what you always have the urge inside to do, which is to make life better for all who live it. Consider the options available to you. Ten years from now, which of those options will you thank yourself for choosing? You have a long history of achievement and of building on that achievement. You know from experience how to do better and that’s precisely what you can do right now. It may not be the easiest, most comfortable and convenient choice, yet you know it’s your best choice. You can do better, so right here, right now, be all about allowing and enabling that to happen. — Ralph Marston

Repeating positive actions The things you do once make a difference, the things you do repeatedly change your life. There’s only so much you can accomplish in this moment, but you have more than this moment. You have the rest of today, you have tomorrow, you have next month, you have next year. Imagine what you can do when all those days and hours are pointed in a consistent direction. Time provides enormous leverage. And like any powerful thing, that can be used to your benefit or to your detriment. Arrange your life so the time you spend accrues to your benefit and to the benefit of others around you. Do what makes a positive difference in the world, then do it again, and again. After achieving something, don’t just sit back and congratulate yourself. Tap into the momentum you’ve created, and do it again. You may not have a lot of impressive resources or connections, but you do have as much time as everybody else. Make good, purposeful use of that time by repeating your positive actions again and again. — Ralph Marston

Use this moment Do you want to make something more difficult? Then put it off until later. Or would you prefer to have the most options, the greatest leverage, the lowest cost? Then get it done now. The longer you put it off, the more it will cost you and inconvenience you. The sooner you start, the more value you’ll be able to create. Are you avoiding an unpleasant task right now? It will be three times worse if you put it off until tomorrow. Do the difficult things when they are easiest. Use this moment to create value instead of trying in vain to borrow that value from the future. Do yourself a favor. Go ahead and get it done. — Ralph Marston

What you envision Just a little ways beneath the surface of all you do, exist the happiness and fulfillment you long for. In everything you experience is the potential for the highest level of adventure you can imagine. You are only one thought away from recognizing the positive potential of whatever situation you’re in. The profound joy that comes from living with purpose and with love is always well within your reach. Your greatest adventure awaits, not in some vague and distant scenario, but right here and now. Will today be the day you summon the courage to accept and engage in that adventure? Pierce through the thin layer of doubts, excuses, and denials. Connect yourself fully to the unique living miracle that is your legacy and your destiny. Raise your experience to a level that is consistent with your highest values and most treasured dreams. Live the way you are meant to live, right where you are. Change everything for the better by changing your thoughts for the better. What you envision in the deepest part of you, is exactly who you are. — Ralph Marston

Let the joy be you Go ahead, let beauty and wonder astound you. Go ahead, let joy be the sum total of what you are. Dive deeply into the particular magic of this very moment. Feel the unique texture of where you are, of all that surrounds you. Ride along on waves of possibilities as they flow out from the very heart of existence. Give yourself over to the power of your most intoxicating thoughts. Let the joy be in you, with you, around you, from you. Let the joy be you. Feel those truths that exist far beyond the confines of this temporary, limited condition. Allow yourself the freedom, the confidence, the love to be the whole of your potential. Filled with endless gratitude, give that love to all you know. Let the joy be you, and let the peace be everything. — Ralph Marston

Where will it all lead? Every challenge is a space you can fill with new value. Every effort is an opportunity to add richness to life. Every person you encounter has something to teach you about the miracle of being. Every moment you experience is filled with its own flavor of magic. Every problem you work through is a chance to grow stronger. Every story you share shines its light on the world from a fresh new perspective. Every feeling that runs through you deepens your appreciation for all that is. Every path you follow leads to new wisdom and connection. There is much you can do, here, now, always, everywhere. And whatever it is, in one way or another it makes a difference. Where will it all lead you? It will take you bit by bit, moment by moment, to whatever you value most consistently and authentically. — Ralph Marston

Live all the richness Do more than just wondering about it or wishing for it. Live the rich experience of life. Push yourself past the doubts, excuses and hesitations. Commit yourself with your words, your actions, your persistence and overriding sense of purpose. Craft your own fascinating story from the wealth of raw material that is right in front of you. Express your inner passions within the context of your outer circumstances and drive that story forward. Connect who you always are to wherever you happen to be. Connect all you love and care about to whatever you are doing. Cast off any conditions you may have imposed on the pursuit of your own highest fulfillment. This is the time for you to live the values, the ideals, the dreams that define you. Today’s possibilities are much too valuable to ignore. Embrace them now, and live all the richness that is yours to know. — Ralph Marston

Claim the value The journey has been long and you’ve grown a little weary. That’s all the more reason to keep going. Day after day you’ve given your best. Respect that investment, protect and maintain it by giving more. The objective is closer now than it has ever been. Do what you must to get all the way there. A long time ago you made a commitment. You’ve honored that commitment with the way you’ve lived your life, and this is the moment to keep that honor going. Persistence is never easy, but that’s not really the issue. It is the right thing, it is the necessary thing, it is your thing to do here and now. Your efforts so far have built great and irreplaceable value. Persist, and claim the full extent of that value. — Ralph Marston

What compels you to care Pay attention to what resonates with you. Take notice when anything or anyone energizes your spirit. Certain words, music, colors, places, people, food, sensations and other experiences can take you to a good place. Keep track of what they are, and go often to that good place within. Regularly arrange the details of your life, of your experience, to boost your energy level. Assemble a whole collection of ways to be good to yourself, to invigorate you at the deepest level. There is a reason why cathedrals have large, expensive pipe organs and soaring ceilings. Things like that matter in ways that surpass understanding. Go often to where you have the indisputable knowing that life is good. Do, again and again, those things that affirm your highest hopes and best instincts. Touch, taste, feel, see, hear what compels you to care. Let life be good in ways that drive you to make it even better. — Ralph Marston

Get yourself through it It’s not easy, what you must do. It’s frustrating, inconvenient, complicated, and sometimes doesn’t even make sense. But here’s the thing. Get yourself through it and you make yourself stronger. Get yourself through it and watch your confidence skyrocket. Get yourself through it, and all sorts of new possibilities will open up to you. You’re not meant to sit around and have all the goodies in life handed to you for free. You know you’re a whole lot better than that. So don’t you dare even think about feeling sorry for yourself when things get a little difficult. There’s nothing to feel sorry about, because you have a chance to make a real, meaningful difference. Get yourself through it, and make things better for everybody. Get yourself through it, and get yourself to a whole new level of purposeful living. — Ralph Marston
