Spring Cleaning: Clean Out Your Closet—Confess Your Sins
Spring Cleaning: Clean Out Your Closet—Confess Your Sins I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Psalm 32:5 Recommended Reading 1 John 1:8-10 [ http://iz3.me/K2p13zeTx1A1 ] Real-life husband and wife Jim and Marian Jordan were the stars of the radio comedy show Fibber McGee and Molly (1935-1959). Performed before a live audience, the fast-paced radio show featured sound effects and dialogue to keep audiences entertained. A regular feature was Fibber McGee’s “closet”—an avalanche waiting to happen whenever the closet door was opened. Fibber’s constant refrain was, “I need to get that closet cleaned out one of these days”—something that never happened. Watch This Week’s TV Broadcast [ http://iz3.me/M2p13zeTx1A1 ] Closet-cleaning is a timeless ritual at home. And it should be in the heart-home as well. It is so easy to let sins of omission and commission accumulate. And then, without warning, they can bury us in their consequences when the door to the heart is opened. That need never happen! It is much easier to keep sins confessed and forgiven on a daily basis. The only way to live free of the burden of guilt is to confess our sins to God. He has promised to “forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). We must be as resolute to cast our care upon the Lord as to confess our sins to him. F. B.
