Default Topic of the Week, words that begin with "Q"

Q is for Quit. Quit old patterns and behaviours. Quit doing what you use to do or it just might lead you back to your drug of choice. Quit substituting other things, and you will find peace and serenity. Quit using all mind altering substance they are but a symptom of your dis-ease. Quit denying that the problem is you!

Q is for Quit. Quit beating up on yourself. You didn't get this way overnight, so don't expect to heal and get an instant cure. This isn't a quick fix program, it is a 12 Step Program.

Quit being Resentful. Resentments will take you back out if you don't deal with them. They fester and grow all out of proportion. It was suggested to me to pray for the person(s) and/or situation that I was resentful of and wish them everything that I would want for myself. I was told to pray that they would get a spiritual awakening, so they couldn't continue doing what they were doing. I found it worked for me too.

Q is for Quest. After being in the rooms for a year, I had heard so many theories of how God worked in people's lives, I recognized that I needed to make my God personal. I went on a spiritual quest to find out who God was to me. I found out He was all things and He is as He reveals Himself to me in today.

Q is for Quota. When you think you have reached your quota of meetings, think again. This is a one day at a time program. It is a living program. When you quit meetings, you set yourself up for relapse. When I hear of people relapsing at 5, 10, 15, and 20 years, I ask them what went wrong. They have all replied, "I stopped going to meetings."

I had stopped going to meetings last summer....by last fall, I started getting a lot of "Stinking Thinking" and I started going to the Thursday night AA meetings again. Looking back now, I think I was setting myself up for a relapse by not going to meetings. I am grateful that I was able to recognize the warning signs and turned to going back to AA meetings instead of back to the bottle.

Thanks for sharing Dave. As they say, we are only an arm's length from picking up and our recovery is based on our spiritual connection on a daily basis. This isn't religion and going to church, it is connecting with and helping others.

As my sponsor said, "Quit trying to figure things out. It works when you work for it." She said, "Stop intellectualizing! That is not how it works!"

Q is for Quiet. In Step Three it says to be still, and in the quiet say the Third Step Prayer. Being still and quieting my mind took a lot of practice. For me, it was progress, not perfection. The real challenge was finding that quiet amongst the chaos, and connecting with the God of my understanding.
