Default God Delivers

Your Daily Inspiration

Do you ever have certain Bible scriptures that speak to you during various seasons of your life? Well, I do and right now the one that has risen in my spirit is the story of David verses Goliath. I tell you sometimes it seems that there is so much opposition occurring in my life that it feels like I am in the valley in front of giants regularly and so I soak my soul in the messages of this story.

I love this story because I love the confidence that David displayed regarding God. He knew that the God he served would bring him safely through whatever or whoever he faced. After remembering how God delivered him through dangerous situations in the past, he encouraged himself in the knowledge that the same God that did that back then would be the same One who would do it that day against Goliath.

Many times when our giants are in front of us, we forget how God had brought us through before. Spiritual amnesia creeps in and instead of feeling victorious we are fraught with anxiety and fear and instead of feeling like we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) we feel like losers.

Remembering past victories and how God brought us safely through is one way to feed our faith. It is spiritually vital to know that when these giants come before us that the God we serve is our Defender and He is our Warrior (Exodus 15:3) and victory is always assured. When we call on Him He will fight our battles for us and we will be saved from all harm (2 Samuel 22:4). Hallelujah!

David understood the importance of recalling what God did for him in the past. When the bear and the lion came and he was able to kill them by the power of the Holy Spirit, he knew that the same God who did that then would also be able defeat this present obstacle and so he had no fear. There is nothing or no one who can harm us because God is always for us (Romans 8:31) and David feasted on that knowledge when he faced Goliath. So when he slung his sling shot with those stones he already knew the outcome. He knew that the giant would fall down.

Friends, as I continue to grow and delve deeper into the Word of God, I have learned that the shape and size of my opponent may change, but my Savior does not. He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore and what He did back there He is faithful to do again here. When spiritual amnesia creeps up, I start recalling and remembering, like David, the times that He got me through and as I call on the Lord I fearlessly run towards my giant knowing that it will fall down too because the God I serve is faithful to deliver me.

-Nina Fortson

“But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!” 1 Samuel 17:34-37 (NKJV)

Mighty Warrior, thank You that Your hand is always upon me keeping me safe from all harm. No weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and what the enemy meant for bad You will turn it around for my good (Genesis 50:20, Romans 8:28). I sow those promises into my heart. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen
