Renew Your Spirit
Renew Your Spirit Read Isaiah 39:1 through 42:25 “Fatigue makes cowards of us all.” Most people find George Patton’s famous line to be true. Humans require adequate sleep, nutrition, and exercise to maintain a healthy body and mind. Keeping the human spirit fit requires another ingredient: hope. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31). Over time, the people of Israel exchanged the worship of the Lord for the idolatrous religions of their neighbors. They closed their ears to the law of Moses and the messages of the prophets. The people turned from God and put their hope in images of wood, stone, and precious metals. Their new, powerless gods failed them. Their hope and prosperity evaporated. People who pursue money, possessions, or fleshly enjoyment also place their hope in the wrong place. Only by placing our hope in the Lord and devoting our lives to God, can we renew our spirits. Thought for Today: Hope comes from the Holy Spirit, not “stuff.” Quicklook: Isaiah 42:28–31 |
