Any of us who have this problem will never be in any greater danger than when we say to ourselves, I got this. Yet we'll all do this at some point. It's part of the process all of us have to go through to get recovery to know that this problem has us, and has had all of us long before any of us knew it did. It's not the other way around like so many of us would like to think and believe. There's never any truth in saying I got this that any of us will ever be able to find. It just isn't so, but that doesn't stop any of us from saying this. All this really means when we say this is we still think there's some way we can beat this problem on our own. It's too bad when all of us do this because we'd never have to say this to ourselves if it were true, and just the fact that we even have to say this means that it's not true. Whenever we say I got this, what it really means is we're all setting ourselves up for more trouble and pain than is really necessary for all of us to know what we all already know, and that is this problem has us, why else would we even be telling ourselves this in the first place if it didn't.
