We're all damaged goods in the sense that the problem we all share is something that we all developed as a means of coping with life on our own, and the results of how we thought we should live. What happened to all of us is we ended up hurting ourselves, without us even knowing it at first, but later on we became fully aware of this, and equally aware of the fact that we couldn't stop ourselves from doing this no matter how hard we tried. Recovery teaches how we can become whole once again, but we have to decide if we're going to let ourselves be helped, so that we can begin to be taught how to get right with ourselves. For those of us with this problem, it's very unlikely any of us would ever be able to figure this out on our own, or what we needed to do to accomplish this. We can open ourselves up to the knowledge of how this can be done that's shared in recovery by those who have found a way that works. All we have to do is decide that we want this help, and we can have it, it's that easy. Only we get to decide on how hard we're going to make this for ourselves.
