Those among us who have the biggest problem are those of us who think they don't have any problems. We are surrounded by our problem pretending we don't have one until there are severe consequences from our problem. Only then we're forced to see and admit that we have one. Many who are like us, who have problems but don't end up getting the same kind of consequences we get, can spend their whole life without being able to do anything about their problems. The curse of our consequences turns out to be our blessing so we don't end up living like that thinking we don't have any problems. It's a terrible way to have to live, to have problems and not to be able to do anything about having them, because of being so proud that we can't see that we have any. Those of us in recovery should know all about doing this because we have, at one time, done exactly the very same thing.
