Default Defeat Discouragement

DEFEAT DISCOURAGEMENT

Discouragement is basically the state of being discouraged. Discourage means to dissuade or hinder. It means to deprive of courage of confidence. There are many ways we get discouraged. On our own by our own thoughts words or actions. We can get discouraged by what others say and do to us or to others. We also can get discouraged due to things that happen with our finances, health, relationships, career, ministry, etc. However, if we think about it, we allow ourselves to be discouraged. Things may happen to us but how we react is our choice. Let’s take on discouragement and defeat it with God’s word!

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 23:4 “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. List what you have been down about lately.
2. Write out ways you have sought help.
3. Know God’s word can help you.
4. Pray and trust in God and draw near to Him.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help us to remember when we are discouraged to look to You. Remind us You will protect us with Your rod. Help us remember You will guide us with Your staff. We want to keep Your word in our hearts and on our minds so we quickly remember You are all we need even when we are going through a dark time in our lives. Help us not to get down but stay in Your word, pray and know You are with us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER: Rather than allowing the hard things in life to get us down, let’s keep our focus on God and He will lift us up.

Psalm 145:14 “The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.” (NLT)

We have God’s promise that He is with us wherever we go and He will help us when we fall.

When we draw close to God, He will draw close to us.

James 4:8a “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (NKJV)

FOCUS: Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.” (NLT)

God is close to those who trust Him and able to help us when we get discouraged.
