Default Direct Me

Direct Me

"Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight." Psalms 119:35

Have you ever seen those bumper stickers that say, "God is my co-pilot?" Well, I have often thought, "I don't want God to be my co-pilot, I want him to be my pilot!" I know that I do not have what it takes to pilot myself through this life safely. The reality is that we are at the controls of our life. That can be both good and bad, depending on who we are listening to for directions. God is like the radio controller: he is in the tower and he sees things we do not see. He can warn us of the dangers that are imminent. It is essential that a pilot is in constant contact with the tower, and it is essential that we be in constant contact with God, who is directing our path. When we are in continual contact with God and listening to his direction, our flight through this life will be a joyful one. There will be no near misses; there will be no emergency landings; those only result when we attempt to take control of our lives alone. This is a real challenge for us all because we have so many distractions in this life, and often we are simply "too busy" to be in contact with the tower. How foolish it would be for a pilot to say, "I'm sorry I crashed the plane, I was simply too busy to contact the tower and seek direction." Being in constant contact with our Father is not an option; it is not something that will just make us feel good or would be a good idea, it is essential to our walk. We need to make the time so that he can direct our path.

Father; help us to let go of the silly notion that we need to be in control of our lives. What a lie from the devil that is! I am so thankful that you are there to direct me in all of life's pathways. Help me to never lose contact with you because I become too busy with life. Keep me alert to the dangers that surround me and direct me where to go. Help me to listen and be obedient to your directions. May I find joy in allowing you to take control of my life! Amen Quiet Waters
