Default A Different Kind of Peace

A Different Kind of Peace

"Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid." - John 14:27
How does Jesus' peace differ from the peace offered by the world? Actually, the world cannot offer true peace. It merely offers a temporary fulfillment of desire. It offers material things that satisfy for a time, and then leave us empty again. It offers attitudes about life that may seem to satisfy for a time, but which sell us short later on.

The peace that Jesus gives is a peace that lasts beyond changing external circumstances. It can even coexist with pain and deprivation. For the peace of Jesus is his own presence within ourselves, a presence that brings us the joy of knowing that we belong to the God who alone satisfies our longings. Since his presence is beyond space and time, so is the peace. Those who choose the free gift of Jesus' peace know what this means. The experience of it is beyond words.

Jesus, may I come to know more deeply the peace that you give. The more that I long for it, the more I will be capable of receiving it. Increase my longing.

Focus Your Day

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
God says that each of us is worth loving.
