Under Full Sail
Under Full Sail
Read Psalm 62:5-8 For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him. -Psalm 62:1 (NRSV) THE day was warm and muggy as I eased my sailboat out of its berth and toward the open water of the lake. The engine purred along, and my plan was to get the boat to a place on the lake where the winds were high enough to make use of the sails. Soon I realized there was little wind on the lake. I stopped the engine, raised the sails, scanned the water's surface, and looked for any sign of wind. Sitting there in the sweltering sun, barely moving, I felt frustrated and bored. But I had listened to the weather reports earlier and heard that winds were to increase throughout the day, and so I waited. Before long I was moving across the lake under full sail, thoroughly enjoying the day with God's breath as my propulsion system. That experience made me think of how we sometimes get frustrated and bored with our lives. During those times, we often turn to worldly diversions and other people to make us happy. We forget that if we trust in God as our true wind, the lull we experience can be followed by the exhilaration of moving forward. We will experience God's promise. Steve Thibodeaux (Texas, USA) Prayer Dear God, help us to be patient during the boring times in life and to remember that wonder is ahead. Amen. Thought for the Day God fills the world with wonders as wind fills a sail.

Would prefer to not have boring, change my attitude and just be in the moment, no matter what is happening or not happening.
No one can change my attitude but me. First I have to be aware that I have one, then I have to admit that it is there, accept it, and take action to change it. The best action to take is prayer, but if I am bored, what am I not doing? Under full sail, is like running on 8 cylinders, the vessel is finely tuned, going with the flow, and enjoying life. Even when I have difficulties, pain, worries about family, etc. my God is only a prayer away and if I am bored or hurting, I come to the boards to read and share. Because of my C.O.P.D. and other issues with arthritis, I don't go out at night and seldom get to a meeting. When I get there it is a blessing, and I always leave feeling better than I did going in. If I am feeling good when I go in, I need to pay it forward and share it with others. Life happens, but we have the tools in recovery to deal with them. Life didn't change, I did. It is generally my outlook and how I perceive things. It can be lack of acceptance and a projection of expectations on myself or onto others. What ever it is, God is the Master Healer and Planner.
