Topic of the Week, words that begin with "P"
P is for Pride. Often it is false and is part of my dis-ease. Too often it is ego and being full of myself and other times, it is good to acknowledge what you have done as long as you give your Higher Power the Credit, because through Him/Her, all things are possible.

P is for Peace. Through the program and my Higher Power, I was able to find Inner Peace.

P is for Practice
Practice control of your anger. Practice rigorous honesty with yourself and others. Practice an attitude of gratitude. Practice letting the little kid in you out - laugh from the gut. |

P is for Pleasure. If you don't have pleasure in recovery, ask yourself "Self, what are you doing wrong?" It isn't about other people, it is about you doing what is right and good for you. As the commercial says, "Double your Pleasure, double your fun." I don't chew gum, but I do like their advertisement.
This is my guilty pleasure!

P is for Progress not Perfection. Ms. Perfection wants everything just so and it is her way or the highway. She is in her disease, she is not a part of recovery.
Sometimes on our journey, we take one step forward and two steps back. We don't have to physically pick up, but we can slip mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. This is a Spiritual program, not a religious one. Don't get caught up in a lot of rules and regulations which will stand in the way of your progress in recovery.

P is for Purpose. When I came into recovery, my thoughts were stop the world, I want to get off. Once I walked through the doors of recovery, I was given a new purpose and a new reason for living. The 3rd and 5th Traditions. The only requirements for membership is a desire to quit drinking. I tried my way and it didn't work. I could stop, but I couldn't stay stopped.
Our primary purpose is to carry the message to the alcoholic/addict who still suffers. I was given so much, I had to pass it on to others. I received hope and I was granted promises that came true. I saw people doing things that I hadn't been able to do for myself. I wanted what they had.

P is for People. I need people in my life. Isolation is part of my disease. This is a WE program. People needing people. One alcoholic/addict facing another alcoholic/addict sharing their recovery together.

P is for Pleasing. It doesn't hurt to be pleasing to others. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Not treat others as they should be treated according to me in days of yore. Put some attitude into your gratitude. Don't just say it, show it.

P is for Principles in all our affairs. When we come from a place of love, we can't go to far wrong. Principles before personalities. You have to love them even if you would have never drank with them.

P is for Practice. Practice these principles in ALL your affairs. It doesn't mean just drinking, just using drugs in any form, anything that stands between you and your God. As my sponsor said to me, "Practice, practice, practice."

P is for Peace. Spend some time with your God. Let go of the Chaos. Let go and let God. Spend time with friends, go to a meeting.
