Default Life without Limits

God's Word For Today

Life without Limits

Read: Exodus 7:8 through 9:35; Matthew 14:13–36

Azrael was only five but wanted to hit the whiffle ball badly. The older kids took pity and handed him the bat. Even though it was plastic, the bat was still a bit too heavy for him. With each swing Azrael nearly fell.

His turn over, he walked away with a drooping head. But the boys called him to try again. He perked up and returned to the bat and tried again. Miss. He started to swing again when he felt his dad’s strong hands brace his. Smack! The bat connected with the ball, and the ball flew.

Sure, Azrael had limitations—his size, his strength, his knowledge, and his age, but limitations didn’t matter when his dad stepped in.

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come out to you on the water” (Matthew 14:28).

Peter had limitations—for starters, humans aren’t designed to walk on water. But his human limitations didn’t matter when Jesus was there to help him. And Jesus didn’t scold Peter for his humanity—He worked with it.

Thought for Today: When God calls, you don’t have to worry about your own limitations.

Quicklook: Matthew 14:22–33
