Enemies

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your friends, hate your enemies.' But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may become the sons of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil." - Matthew 5:43-45

Love your enemy. If you do, it makes life easier for you. Can you imagine how much energy is lost when you hate or resent someone? How many of us have that much energy to spare? If there is someone in your life who is difficult to love, commend that person to God. If that person needs your help, ask God for the strength to give it.

Of course, no one said that this would be easy. Loving those who are difficult to love goes against the grain of our egos. We are to pray for their good, and if the occasion arises, to do good to them. From all of this, our enemies receive our forgiveness, and from our act of forgiveness, we receive peace of mind and the joy of knowing that we live according to God's will.

Lord, I wish to regard no person as my enemy, but I know that it takes great humility to love those who don't love me. Grant me the strength to do what you ask of me.

Focus Your Day
