In a prison cellar in Cologne, Germany, after World War II, the following words were found etched in the wall:

I believe ...
I believe in the sun,
even when it is not shining;
I believe in love,
even when I feel it not;
I believe in God,
even when He is silent.

Surely the prisoner who carved out these words understood the essence of faith.
