On the 31st March in 1855, the author
Charlotte Brontë died, aged 39. She had
lived in Yorkshire. In one of her books,
‘Jane Eyre’, she wrote:

“We know that God is everywhere,
but certainly we feel his presence most
when his works are on the grandest scale
spread before us,
and it is in the unclouded night-sky,
where his worlds wheel their silent course,
that we read clearest his infinitude,
his omnipotence, his omnipresence.”

We can think, as well, of one of the great
saints, Ignatius Loyola, who could not
look at the stars in the night sky without
being moved to tears by God’s beauty.

Let us pray:

God our Father, open our eyes
to the beauty of your creation.
Inspire us to appreciate
all the wonders of life.
May all that we see lead us to you.
Amen.
