Prayers for August

And so we pray today:

Mary, our Mother,
your total giving of yourself
reminds us
that we hold in trust
from God our Father
all our accomplishments
and talents and gifts
- trusted as we are
to offer them in his service,
and bring happiness and well-being
to our brothers and sisters.
Your “Yes” to God’s invitation
to be the mother of his Son
reminds us
that prayer is not just words
but is from the heart.
We ask you to pray to Jesus for us
that the Holy Spirit
may live fully in us, too,
so that we may pray
in the way that each of us finds best.
So may we be prepared to join you
in saying “Yes” to God our Father,
that Jesus may be born anew
in our hearts.
Amen.

Have never prayed to Mary in my life, to me to do so sets her up as an idol, but that is just my thought. I prefer to think that I have a direct line and don't need a mediator.

One thing I miss is lighting a candle in my home, because I am allergic to smoke and the scented ones. If I use an unscented on, they are fine until I blow them out or they burn out.

To each his own way of worship and what bring them closer to their God.

Let us pray:

God our Father,
we have been reminded
of the destruction and even death
that water can bring,
and we can reflect
that we are called
to die to selfishness and sin
- living, instead,
in the fullness of life
that Jesus promises.
In a country that is blessed
with an abundance of water,
perhaps we don’t fully appreciate
how vital water is for all life.
Water is used as a sign in Baptism
- a symbol of dying
to selfishness and sin,
and living the new life
that Jesus brings.
When Jesus was baptised
in the River Jordan,
he was placing himself beside
all who had sinned
and needed to make a new start
and live in a better way.
At that time, Father,
you were heard to say
that Jesus was your well-loved Son,
and the Holy Spirit rested upon him.
Fill us with your Spirit
that we may grow
in the realisation and faith
that we, too,
are your sons and daughters
whom you love greatly.
Amen.

I firmly believe a thought is a prayer.

Lord, in your mercy - hear our prayer

Let us see one another through eyes
enlightened by understanding and compassion.

Release us from judgment so we can receive the stories
of our sisters and brothers with respect and attention.

Open our hearts to the cries of a suffering world
and the healing melodies of peace and justice for all creation.

Empower us to be instruments of justice
and equality everywhere.

World Prayers.

Let us pray:

God our Father,
we read of the commandment
“do not kill”
and think it doesn’t apply to us
because we don’t take anyone’s life.
Yet there are times
when we take life from others
by cruel words, sarcasm,
doing people down,
and gossiping.
Lead us to choose to bring life to others
- and not death.
Inspire us to break the cycle
of whatever is negative
or violent or evil
whenever we encounter them.
Let us not look for vengeance
- to get our own back -
but lead us to be generous
and ready to conquer evil
with goodness. Amen.

Really liked this because I was told the same many years ago. When we assassinate the character of another one or ourselves, we take away from them and it is mental murder.

We have a disease of perception and what others see may not be the same as what we see, no saying who is right or wrong, but it is something I pray and ask for healing daily. Always try to remember that what I see reflected in others, is something coming from within me, it may not take the same form but has the same consequences.

I like these prayers because they seem more personal and for the most part, I can identify and own them.

Let us pray:

God our Father, in saying
that you have written our names
on the palm of your hands,
you are telling us that each person
is unique and special to you.
We pray that individuals
may discover in themselves
the treasures you have given them,
and develop and put to good use
the qualities
they hold in trust from you.
I pray and commit myself today
to promote goodness and happiness,
by treating others
with respect
and care and understanding.
May others treat me today, Father,
in the same way as I treat them,
and so may we all
bring out the best in one another
and grow in the way
we look at ourselves and others.
Amen.

This angel picture changes every day. You will find it on other posts that I have done. I just couldn't resisting posting this one. I am guilty of being the angel on the right, even now in recovery. That is why I say, "God is as He reveals Himself to me in today. I have to look in order to see, but I must remember to be still in order to listen and quiet to feel my feelings so I may know..

Let us pray:

...And so we thank you, Lord,
for making us people of quality.
We pray that we may use our gifts well
and not keep them unused,
unwrapped,
because a gift is no good
unless it is shared.
We thank you
that we are people of quality
whom your hands have made.
May you be blessed forever!

Amen

The normal source is not available, some quotes on Shakespeare.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father Who Art In Heaven.
Yes?
Don't interrupt me. I'm praying.
But -- you called ME!
Called you?
No, I didn't call you.
I'm praying.
Our Father who art in Heaven.
There -- you did it again!
Did what?
Called ME.
You said,
"Our Father who art in Heaven"
Well, here I am.
What's on your mind?
But I didn't mean anything by it.
I was just saying my prayers for the day.
I always say the Lord's Prayer.
It makes me feel good,
kind of like fulfilling a duty.
Well, all right.
Go on.
Okay, Hallowed be thy name . .
Hold it right there.
What do you mean by that?
By what?
By "Hallowed be thy name"?
It means, it means . . good grief,
I don't know what it means.
How in the world should I know?
It's just a part of the prayer.
By the way, what does it mean?
It means honored, holy, wonderful.
Hey, that makes sense.
I never thought about what 'hallowed' meant before.
Thanks.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Do you really mean that?
Sure, why not?
What are you doing about it?
Doing? Why, nothing, I guess.
I just think it would be kind of neat if You got control of everything down here like You have up there.
We're in a mess down here you know.
Yes, I know;
but, have I got control of you?
Well, I go to church.
That isn't what I asked you.
What about your bad temper?
You've really got a problem there, you know.
And then there's the way you spend your money --
all on yourself.
And what about the kind of books you read?
Now hold on just a minute!
Stop picking on me!
I'm just as good as the rest of them at church!
Excuse ME.
I thought you were praying for My Will to be done.
If that is to happen,
it will have to start with the ones
who are praying for it.
Like you -- for example.
Oh, all right. I guess I do have some hang-ups.
Now that You mention it,
I could probably name some others.
Err .. um, so could I.
I haven't thought about it very much until now,
but I really would like to cut out some of those things.
I'd like to, you know, be really free.
Good.
Now we're getting somewhere. We'll work together -- You and ME.
I'm proud of You.
Look, Lord, if You don't mind,
I need to finish up here.
This is taking a lot longer than it usually does.

Give us this day, our daily bread.
You need to cut out the bread.
You're overweight as it is.
Hey, wait a minute! What is this?
Here I was doing my religious duty,
and all of a sudden You break in
and remind me of all my hang-ups.
Praying is a dangerous thing.
You just might get what you ask for.
Remember,
you called ME -- and here I am.
It's too late to stop now.
Keep praying. ( . . . pause . . )
Well, go on.
I'm scared to.
Scared? Of what?
I know what You'll say.
Try ME.
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
What about Ann?
See? I knew it!
I knew you would bring her up!
Lord, she's told lies about me, spread stories.
She never paid back the money she owes me.
I've sworn to get even with her!
But -- your prayer --
What about your prayer?
I didn't -- mean it.
Well, at least you're honest.
But, it's quite a load carrying around all that bitterness
and resentment isn't it?
Yes, but I'll feel better as soon as I get even with her.
Boy, have I got plans for her.
She'll wish she had never been born.
No, you won't feel any better.
You'll feel worse.
Revenge isn't sweet.
You know how unhappy you are --
Well, I can change that.
You can? How?
Forgive Ann.
Then, I'll forgive you;
And the hate and the sin,
will be Ann's problem -- not yours.
You will have settled the problem
as far as you are concerned.
You're right.
You always are.
And more than I want revenge,
I want to be right with You . . (sigh).
All right . . all right . .
I forgive her.
There now!
Wonderful!
How do you feel?
Hmmmm. Well, not bad.
Not bad at all!
In fact, I feel pretty great!
You know, I don't think I'll go to bed uptight tonight.
I haven't been getting much rest, you know.
Yeah, I know.
But, you're not through with your prayer are you? Go on.
Oh, all right.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Good! Good! I'll do that.
Just don't put yourself in a place
where you can be tempted.
What do you mean by that?
You know what I mean.
Yeah. I know.
Okay.
Go ahead. Finish your prayer.
For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory forever.
Amen.
Do you know what would bring me glory --
What would really make me happy?
No, but I'd like to know.
I don't want to disappoint You anymore. I'd like You to keep on being proud of me. I can see now how great that would be. I've really made a mess of things.
So, tell me . . .
What do I do? How do I make You happy?
YOU just did.

It is very, very good. Saw it many years ago, still good in today.

Let us pray:

God our Father,
I thank you
that many people
have used their gifts well
and have helped me and inspired me
and brought cheerfulness and joy
in my life.
May I, too,
live in such a way
that I bring blessings to others
by my attitude and actions
and my presence with them.
Remain with me
and lead me to that final day
when I, too, will be able to say:
“I see all heaven before me
and the great God himself.”
Amen.

Let us pray:

Lord, may my attitude
and all that I think and do
always be based on
a spirit of love and care,
so that I may make a difference
in my own part of the world
by treating people
as individuals. Amen.

The Big Book says we need to have a change in attitude to aid us in our recover.

From Simple Truths - 2011

~~~~~~
Weekly Verse
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation."
-2 Corinthians 5:17-18
Weekly Quote
"Will-power does not change men. Time does not change men. Christ does."
-Henry Drummond
Weekly Thought
Think about it: you can be made new! Even if you have failed in business. Even if you have experienced broken relationships. Even if you turned your back on God and did exactly what you wanted to do—even though you knew those things were wrong.
Everyone living has experienced a natural birth. But just as Jesus promised Nicodemus in a late night meeting, we can also be reborn, born into the Kingdom of God, becoming His children by spiritual rebirth. What a gift!
With this new status as children of God, we receive a new purpose, a new mission in life. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus tells His disciples—and us—to take the good news of forgiveness and new starts throughout the world—to our own family and friends, to our next-door neighbors, to our co-workers, and every other person we know and meet. We become ambassadors for Christ's message of new life, sharing this message of hope with a world that desperately needs hope!
Lord, thank You for saving me and for giving me the precious opportunity of sharing the love You have given to me with others. Amen.
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus,
open my eyes to recognise you
as you walk beside me,
accompanying me
on my journey in life each day.
Amen.
http://www.animated-gifs.eu/mammals-...isure/0034.gif
I cannot change the way I am,
I never really try,
God made me different and unique,
I never ask him why.
If I appear peculiar,
There's nothing I can do,
You must accept me as I am,
As I've accepted you.
God made a casting of each life,
Then threw the old away,
Each child is different from the rest,
Unlike as night from day.
So often we will criticize,
The things that others do,
But, do you know, they do not think,
The same as me and you.
So God in all his wisdom,
Who knows us all by name,
He didn't want us to be bored,
That's why we're not the same.
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, you tell us
that those who mourn are “blessed”,
knowing that only those
who love greatly
can mourn.
We know, too,
that it is better
to have loved and lost someone
than never to have loved at all.
We ask you today
that through our own sufferings
of different kinds,
we may discover
strength and peace
through helping
and supporting others
in their difficulties. Amen.
