The Family Afterward

This is a link to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous written to family and friends of Alcoholics.

There are also links to other chapters from the first 164 pages of the Big Book. If you haven't read it, it may give you some understanding of the alcoholic in your life.

It is important for members of Al-Anon to read this chapter from the Big Book of AA. So often when a person goes to AA, they change and the family no longer recognizes them and there are a lot of feelings like resentment, hurt, regrets, sadness, etc. that emerge along with a deep misunderstanding and doubts.

They met this person in active addiction, on the members part as well as the alcoholics. Sometimes the differences lead to seperation, because those concerned do not know this new person and the connection is no longer there between them. Other times the relationshio bonds and if both parties in recovery, it grows. I was told "My program, your program, our program."
